    What’s hypnosis?

    What’s hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is a treatment that uses hypnosis to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility.

Hypnotherapy helps you to find your inner resources to maximise your potential.

Hypnosis is the communication between two levels of mind: conscious and unconscious. The conscious mind is the analytical, intellectual, rational part of the mind, and the unconscious mind is the emotional, automatic and autonomic part.

Hypnosis is focused attention on your goal in a very relaxed state.

In Hypnolondon, we use a therapy that combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies and clinical Hypnosis called Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy.

Why hypnotherapy treatment is good for you:

    • It’s a solution-focused therapy.
    • Identifies and challenges self-limiting patterns of thinking and beliefs that keep you stuck from moving forward in life
    • Teaches you self-hypnosis and new coping strategies.
    • It is shorter than some other therapies. That means you spend less money and time achieving your goal.
    • It helps you become your own therapist by developing your understanding of how your mind works and teaches you techniques that you can apply to any area of your life in difficult situations.

    Frequently asked Questions

No. You generally remain aware of and remember what happens during hypnosis, and you will choose how to respond to suggestions. You need to be aware for hypnosis to work. The hypnotherapist is a guide, helping you navigate into your own deeper mind’s resources to help you reach your goal.

No way! The most that might happen, when you are enjoying it so much that you want to stay in that state, is that you will probably fall asleep and come awake when ready. The hypnotist counts you out, and you will hear the count. The clients come out fully awake, able to discuss the session if they want, and get back safely to their daily activities.

Hypnosis is a natural process of entering a state of deep relaxation and focused attention that helps your unconscious mind become more attentive and receptive to suggestions and, thus, more open to change.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind similar to daydreaming. Everybody’s experience is different, and how individuals feel may vary each time they go into hypnosis. People can hear what is being said and move or speak if they want to.

Some people would describe hearing every word the therapist says, while others find their minds wandering. Many people lose track of time when they are in hypnosis. Most people feel very relaxed during and after the session; more enjoyable than they expected.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to say.

Every person and every situation is different, and so is every course of therapy.

It's a bit like booking driving lessons. You can guess how many lessons you'll need based on average, but you don't know for sure till you get behind the wheel! Working on average, I usually suggest starting with four sessions. If you can see value in booking more when these are complete, I am happy to do this.

It depends on you. Hypnotherapy can be very successful. It's also an interactive process, which means we work together, and you play a vital, active role in your therapy.

    • If you are looking for a 'magical' quick fix, then the answer is no.
    • If you want someone else to do all the work so you don't have to, then the answer is no.
    • If the only reason you are considering therapy is that someone else thinks there's a problem, but you don't, then the answer is probably no.
    • But if you want to change, can be open-minded about hypnosis, and are willing to play an active part in achieving your goals, then the answer is yes.

Hypnosis is a very safe procedure if responsibly and adequately used. Like many other things in life, it may cause problems if misused. It is not recommended for someone who has hallucinations, delusions or uses drugs and alcohol.

You may look asleep, but you are awake during hypnosis. You are in a deeply relaxed state. Your breathing rate will slow, and your muscles may become limp.

You need to be awake for hypnosis to work. Your brain is processing the words while you are listening.

Absolutely. It’s just as effective as face to face therapy. It’s convenient and easy to access if you are restricted by time, location or family commitments.

Research shows that online therapy leads to better progress and is more effective than face-to-face therapy.

Some people feel more relaxed and comfortable working from their own home or office, which can only be a good influence on positive outcomes.
